Birr Fan Trail
The Birr Fan Trail brings you on a 5 kilometre-walk around Birr where you will discover the stories of 27 fascinating people and places that made their mark on this heritage town’s remarkable history. Including a cast of characters that ranges from a Hollywood icon and a world-famous opera singer to doctors, politicians, diplomats and sports people the trail also includes locations linked with dramatic events.
As you stroll from one blue plaque to the next, the trail will also take you past plenty of places to stop and enjoy a drink or a bite to eat-or even do a spot of shopping-so take your time with the trail and enjoy it to the full at your own pace.

Currently more from their biographies and where they stood in the theatre of life in their times, can also be researched in books and online. From their time there is a rich, social history to be discovered about Irish artists, mystics and the literary; from brave and daring soldiers who were heroes in their way, to the unfortunate, and some misguided folk. All spent some time in and affected this place, the place that is Birr/Biorra, in the very centre of Ireland – ‘The Middle Kingdom’.
